Elfquest Reader's Collection #8: Kings of the Broken Wheel
Published in Paperback by Warp Graphics Pubns (March, 1999)
Authors: Wendy Pini and Richard Pini
Average review score:

The best of EQ
This is the last of the great Warp legacy. The new editions are fine, but this one was the most gripping and the last full edition of Wendy's art. Book 8 hs got to be the most emotional of all the series and to get that kind of emotional pull in a graphic novel is outstanding. If you can, please get ahold of the color editon. Fantastic!

Wonderful
My favourite out of all the elfquest books. It is richly filled to the brim with Wendy Pini's art, and even if it isn't the colour version of "Kings" it is excellent art. I recommend this book to any fan of elfquest, it is a wonderful additon to the elfquest series!

ElfQuest: A Review
The book, The Complete Elf Quest : Book Eight : Kings of the Broken Wheel, is an enchanting graphic novel about elves and their quest to survive. The pictures are highly detailed and amazingly cool. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

Esther: A Story of Courage
Published in Paperback by Unknown (May, 2003)
Author: Trudy J. Morgan-Cole
Average review score:

Well-Researched and Entertaining
Morgan-Cole's book goes beyond the cliche, and beyond the Biblical narrative. She answers questions I have wondered about. What was life like in an Asian harem? Did Esther really want to be there? She is celebrated every year as a heroine. But who was she? An interesting plot, butressed with historical research and a female perspective, that leads you to admire Morgan-Cole's Esther, and the many women of her era who's names we never learn.

The kind of book that keeps you reading untill 2 a.m.!
This is historical fiction at it's best. Meticulously researched and accurate where possible while at the same time totally captivating.

It's the story of a young Hebrew girl living in Persia c. 480 B.C.E. after her people had been exiled from Jerusalem. King Xerxes sends his men to find beautiful women for his harem and Esther is taken by force from her family. As the story of royal harem life and firey politics unwinds Esther finds herself more deeply involved in the King's life than she ever dreamed. Her strength and courage as she saves her people from annihilation give the reader cause for contemplation and make you fall in love with her.

Esther herself is enchanting but the whole cast of characters is skillfully developed. Before you know it you are floating along in the story and living in the 5th century B.C.E. The descriptions and history mesh perfectly with the fictional elements to create a spellbinding story of intrigue, mystery, murder, and romance.

The best part of the book for the true historical fiction fan is the part where Trudy Morgan-Cole details how she researched the book. She explains which parts are true, which parts are probably true, and which parts are pure fiction. She touches on the difficulties of researching historical figures from over 2000 years ago and explains her reasoning in using the 'version' of history she chose.

It's truly a splendid book that will delight the reader all the way through!

I couldn't put the book down once I started reading it!
Thought provoking and truly an amazing story!

Existential Hypnotherapy
Published in Hardcover by Guilford Press (03 September, 1993)
Authors: Mark King and Charles Citrenbaum
Average review score:

Fantastic
This book is so full of common sense wisdom that you may wonder why you haven't heard it all before. Yet the approach is unique, especially on dealing with addictions. Also, the use of client generated metaphors and imbedded suggestions is very well explained and interesting. I probably have enjoyed this book as much as any on hypnosis. Very enlightening!

Interesting
The chapter on addiction was unique. The approach taken about the addiction fad was different than other books I have read on the subject. While the book covers a wide range of hypnotherapy topics, including a very good chapter on metaphors as client controlled, the chapter on addictions alone would have made the book worthwile. It is a must read, and was a pleasant surprise to me-much more than I expected!

sophisticated, philo- and psychologically based viewpoint
A good treatise to help understand the very bases of hypno- therapeutic possibilities to help the patients. More a mature way of unserstanding than an elementary book for learning.

The Experiencing God Study Bible/New King James Version
Published in Paperback by Broadman & Holman Publishers (September, 1994)
Authors: Henry T. Blackaby, Claude V. King, and Broadman & Holman Publishers
Average review score:

Experiencing God Study Bible
This Bible is the best I have ever owned. There is a section called Prepare to Meet God at the beginning of most chapters, with ideas about things to look for while reading. There are thought-provoking questions with verse references at the end of the chapters. The biographical sketches are awesome. There are wide margins, with room to take notes. The New King James translation is extremely close to the intended meaning; when I look up a word in the original Greek or Hebrew, invariably it's the same word that is in this version, or a very close synonym. If you're only going to have one Bible, this is the one to get!

Excellent devotional study bible
This is likely one of the best study bibles out there for personal devotions and small study groups. Henry Blackaby and Claude King open up and make alive the Scriptures - where real application to everyday life can be understood and made by the bible student!

When using this bible, the student quickly understands and sees that God continues to talk to us today. The study tools incorporated into the tome are thought provoking and simple to apply. One of the best features is the "Prepare to Meet God" and the "Did You Notice?" segments sprinkled throughout the scriptural text. These tools help the student to understand that the spiritual life is real and doable. These segments combine doctrine, history, and application with ease and they spark the faith of those who read them.

As well, at the back of the book there is a 'God Focus' section that defines the Doctrines of the faith - giving a definition, 'contents and context,' 'experiencing God,' 'a Fresh Encounter, and scriptural references to the particular doctrine highlighted and discussed.

This particular study bible is a must-have for those who want to gain a deeper understanding, have a better hold on, and a fresh encounter with the Lord, in His love, grace, wisdom, et al.

The bonus of this particular version is the New King James Version text... all the poetics of the Old King James updated and far more readable. This one's a gem.

I highly recommend it to one an all.

An excellent study bible from teens to seniors.
This is an excellent study bible. It turned me to the word of god. Before I just read the bible, now I understand it.

A fantastical adventure for all fantasy book lovers!
I am a very avid King's Quest player. I own King's Quest 1 through 8 and I love every single one of them. When this book came out I immediately had to go out and buy it. Now I'm not much of a reader, but I absolutly loved this book! It is one of the best I've ever read, its way up on my must read list along with: A Clockwork Orange, The Dragon Lance Series, and other fantasy works. This is a book that will be truly enjoyed by King's Quest fans as well as anyone who enjoys reading for simple pleasure.

WONDERFUL! JUST LIKE THE GAMES !
I thought this was a marvelous fantasy tale; it was portrayed just like the computer series. Like the games, this book has alot of interesting characters each with a different personality. This book also has an interesting plot involving Prince Alexander on an adventure to retrieve his father's sould from the evil mage, Telgrin. I thought this book was the best one of the 3 part volume .

An excelent book, and a must have for any King's Quest fan.

Four Great Tragedies : Hamlet, Othello, King Lear, Macbeth
Published in Mass Market Paperback by New American Library (June, 1998)
Author: William Shakespeare
Average review score:

The Best of Shakespeare in One Book
Having a love of literature, and being an English Lit. major has given me the oportunity to read most of Shakespeare's works. Shakespeare's talent and genius has surely endured and his beautiful writings are essential to mankind not only in the classroom but throughout our lives. His tragedies speak the loudest to me, as they are charged with drama, emotion and memorable quotations. Having to choose a favorite book of all time I would say, "Othello." Yet Hamlet is my second favorite drama of Shakespeare's, and Macbeth also holds strong. I do not care for King Lear but having Shakespeare's 4 greatest and most popular tragedies in one book is a collection worth having.

best
4 of his best i strongly recomend this group of storys.

An excellent collection with great footnotes
Hamlet, Othello, King Lear, and Macbeth are Shakespeare's greatest works. These fantastic stories, coupled with strong footnotes, make for superb reading material. I would recommend this book to beginning and master Shakespeare readers.

Gods, Heroes, and Kings: The Battle for Mythic Britain
Published in Hardcover by Oxford University Press (September, 2001)
Authors: Christopher R. Fee and David Adams Leeming
Average review score:

Highly Recommended
Drs. Christopher Fee and David Leeming have crafted an extraordinary work examining the marriage of Celtic, Germanic, and Norse cultures and religious beliefs in Britain (particularly as they are seen via the literary traditions that chronicled them) in an effort to understand how the impact of pre-Christian peoples influenced the unique Christianity of Medieval Britain. While Dr. Leeming has provided extensive retellings of pagan myths, Dr. Fee has written insightful analyses of these myths and their import to the creation of a British religious ideology. Beginning with a scrutiny of the various pagan pantheons, the work then moves through detailed examinations of, among other things, types of deities, heroes and heroines, and the different sagas of the individual cultures. As an apocalypticist, I found the retellings and subsequent commentaries on Ragnarok and the Anglo-Saxon Fire of Judgment immensely informative and useful.
This is an extraordinarily accessible book. It is intended for the non-specialist and, as such, would be perfect for an undergraduate survey course, for an upper-level topical course on British mythology/religion, or for any scholar seeking an understanding of Britain's pre-Christian culture. I would also recommend it highly as a handbook for any medievalist who needs quick and informed accounts of any and all of these topics. Not only have Drs. Fee and Leeming eloquently opened up the field of pagan Britain to further inquiry and discussion, but they have done so in a work that is, above all, easy and enjoyable to read.

Excellent!
This book is a great read. It's obviously well-researched, and filled with intriguing facts. Furthermore, Fee has a writing style that draws the reader in and keeps him/her interested throughout. Highly recommended!

Great read
really intersting read with lots of interesting facts, not for the faint hearted, makes you think and relise alot of different things

Head Over Heels
Published in Paperback by NovelBooks, Inc. (June, 2002)
Author: Cindy Procter-King
Average review score:

Magee Sinclair goes Mountain Biking!
This is one you must read...what a wonderful book with so much humor I was laughing out loud through out...Justin Kane and Magee are the best h/h -- I fell in love with him and I want Magee for a best friend...I was laughing hysterically when Magee shops at The Raincoat Rendezvous with her new friend Katie...She has a red face just listening to the sales girl tell about the *stock* but when she has to buy something she ends up with the HUBBA HUBBA condoms...it was such a funny scene in the book you have to read it just for that...Of course Magee on the mountain bike was also funny and I don't ride!! There's Justin's EX-girlfriend from H**L who throws herself in the middle of story and him, too...I had great fun reading this book as you can tell...Cindy Procter-King wrote a winner of a book and I hope to read many more by her.

Romantic comedy that full of humor and laughter

Justin Kane is the owner of CycleMania, specialized in selling mountain bikes. He is going to lose the contract with Willoughby Bikes this weekend because his girlfriend, Tina Johnston, chooses this moment to dump him. Nathan, owner of Willoughby Bikes is a man who values honor and commitment, and Justin wants to portray a happy couple with Tina to gain the deal. Without Tina, Justin needs another woman to masquerade as her immediately. He is running out of time and Magee Sinclair enters into the picture. Magee is the account executive of Sinclair Advertising and wants to gain business with CycleMania. When Justin suggests his outrageous plan to Magee, she agrees to be "Tina". She wants to earn the new title, Account Director, by gaining the contract with CycleMania, rather than being the daughter of the boss. In order to ensure the success of the weekend, they have a practice date and make some cheat sheets. Everything turns out to be disastrous during the Willoughbys' visit but the worst thing is that the real Tina Johnston suddenly shows up at Justin's cabin.

HEAD OVER HEELS is a romantic comedy, full of humor and laughter. Magee is the perfect girl for Justin. Although she is clumsy and lacks self-confidence, she has courage to take up the challenge in masquerading as Tina and to ride a mountain bike that she has no experience with. Justin is a businessman and not the marrying type until he spends the weekend with Magee. A few passionate kisses, a fake relationship and business deals creates this refreshing love story. A fun and delightful read.

A wonderful read!
Head Over Heels is just so much fun. It passes - and then some - the only test that matters to me: I couldn't wait to get back to it. I found myself thinking, while attending to life's chores, "I wonder how Magee (the central character) is going to dance her way out of this (generally self-constructed) pickle.

The characters not only have depth as individuals, but the chemistry between them is almost palpable. Every romance novel should succeed so wonderfully on this most critical element. Head Over Heels is simply a great read - I can't wait for more from this author.

Healing the Fisher King: Spiritual Lessons with Parzival, Gump, the Grail, Tao, and Star Wars
Published in Hardcover by Art Tao Press (July, 2002)
Author: Shelly Durrell
Average review score:

A fascinating read
If I had to use one word to describe this book it would have to be "brilliant". Shelly Durrell deftly takes the reader on a highly informative journey through the story of Parzival and the Grail complete with a detailed psychological analysis. At the same time she explores how the theme is used consistently throughout some of the most successful films of our time including Star Wars, Forest Gump, The Natural, and others. This is a strong and detailed exegesis of the Arthurian tale of Parzival, the search for the Grail, and the Fisher King. By understanding Parzival and the Fisher King we come to understand how to heal our own emotional wounds.

A story of hurt, growth, and healing, "Healing the Fisher King" is a wonderful read as Shelly Durrell provides a thoroughly illuminating examination of all aspects of the tale. It is a highly recommended read for people dealing with an emotional hurt that will not heal, an interest in fine literature, or anyone else that just enjoys a well written book that shows the common bonds that we all must experience and work through in our lives. Bravo, Shelly Durrell.

Brilliant
Shelly Durrell writes elequently, and is still comprehensible for any reader. She relates the stories and tales of Parzival to the movies we watch everyday -as well as the experiences in life we live through daily. Along with the symbolism and lessons, you are given a chance to reflect, write, and meditate while reading the book. This all results in a beautiful awakening of the spirit. Highly recommended!!!!

A life journey worth striving for
Healing The Fisher King: Spiritual Lessons With Parzival, Gump, The Grail, Tao, And Star Wars by Shelly Durrell is a metaphysical self-actualization book that traces beloved modern movies back to their roots to the Arthurian legend of "Parzival," written by Wolfram von Eschenbach in the twelfth century. Durrell summarizing "Parzival" for those who have not read it, presenting the Hero's Life as a life journey worth striving for, offering meditations and psychological exercises, drawing extensive connections to film and proffering numerous full-color photographs of movies, classical artwork, and more. Healing The Fisher King is an literate, complex, and personally rewarding metaphysical journey that readers of all familiarity levels with metaphysics and popular culture references will enjoy paging through from beginning to end.
